Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has served a legal notice to Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar for making “false, baseless, and defamatory remarks against him over the phone-tapping scandal.

The notice gives the minister seven days to tender an unconditional public apology, failing which legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, will be initiated.

August 8 remarks trigger legal action

The legal notice, sent through KTR’s counsel, refers to comments made by Bandi Sanjay during a press conference on August 8.

According to KTR, the statements were “irresponsible” and aimed at damaging his public image. The counsel maintained that making such accusations without evidence was unbecoming of a Union Minister and a Member of Parliament.

Accusations of political motive

KTR’s legal team alleged that Bandi Sanjay had repeatedly levelled unfounded allegations to gain political mileage and media attention.

They stressed that KTR, who has held various ministerial positions since the formation of Telangana, has an unblemished record of public service, and that such defamatory propaganda was causing irreparable harm to his reputation.

Demands in the Notice

The notice seeks a public apology to KTR and his family, along with a written undertaking that no further defamatory statements, whether direct or indirect, will be made in the future. It warns that failure to comply will result in legal action to hold Bandi Sanjay fully accountable for the damage caused.

Warning of stricter consequences

The counsel emphasised that none of the allegations made during the August 8 press meet were backed by proof, and accused the Union Minister of misusing his position to launch personal attacks.

They cautioned that any further “wild, false, and malicious” statements would invite more severe legal consequences under applicable laws.
