Ponguleti predicts victory for Congress in municipal polls, warns BRS against ‘creating public unrest
Sathupally: Accusing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leadership of inciting violence, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy warned that the public will no longer tolerate attempts at social unrest for political gain.
Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for 81 newly elected Sarpanches at Rani Celebrations Convention Hall on Tuesday, the Minister addressed recent alleged provocative statements made by opposition leaders regarding district reorganisation and state-wide protests.
‘No more sacrificing youth for politics’
Minister Ponguleti drew a sharp contrast between the leaders of the Telangana movement and the common citizens.
He criticised leaders who ‘held matchboxes’ and incited youth during the movement while remaining safe themselves, leading to the loss of thousands of innocent lives.
“If you try to create ‘agni gundam’ (pits of fire) again in the name of district protests for your selfish interests, the people are watching. If you try to warm yourselves by the fire of public unrest, the people will push you into that same fire,” he declared.
‘Congress restructuring of districts will be scientific’
Addressing the controversial division of districts, revenue divisions and mandals carried out by the previous regime, the Minister promised a corrective approach:
He labelled the BRS-era reorganisation as ‘unscientific’ and purely politically motivated. He said the government plans to discuss the matter in the Assembly and appoint a committee led by a retired judge.
Public Opinion: Decisions will be made only after gathering public feedback and holding Cabinet deliberations to ensure the reorganisation truly benefits the citizens.
GP election results are a reality check, says minister
The Minister mocked the BRS’s claims of victory in the recent Gram Panchayat (GP) elections, calling their statements ‘delusional’, and highlighted that the Congress party won 69 per cent of the seats in the Panchayat elections.
Comparing the opposition’s rhetoric to the behaviour of a ‘mad dog after a bite,’ he said BRS leaders are unable to digest their massive defeat and are resorting to blatant lies to keep their cadre motivated.
Ponguleti predicts bigger victory for Congress in municipal elections
Looking ahead, Minister Ponguleti predicted an even bigger landslide victory for the ruling party in the upcoming municipal elections.
“If the GP elections were the semi-finals, the finals are coming. In the upcoming municipal elections, do not be surprised if Congress sweeps more than 80 per cent of the seats.”
