Prioritize public service, counter digital misinformation: Bhongir MP Kiran Reddy

Bhuvanagri: Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy urged Congress leaders to prioritize public service over titles and aggressively counter digital misinformation.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee executives, he called for a shift in political culture.

TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud was also present at the meeting, where the discussion was to reflect on the party's internal dynamics and its public perception.

"Holding a position is not an achievement; upholding the dignity and responsibility of that position is what truly matters," Reddy remarked, setting a tone of accountability for the new committee.

A Mandate for Merit and Work

The MP emphasized that the health of the party depends on rewarding those who are active on the ground rather than those with personal connections. He urged leaders to move past "pre-election internal frictions" and use this non-election period to build a cohesive, disciplined structure.

Reddy also offered a moment of rare political self-reflection regarding his own career. "I won my first term largely on the strength of the party symbol," he admitted. "But my next victory will depend solely on my progress report. If I don't perform well, the people will rightly show me the door. I only fear the common voter—the 'owner' of those hundred votes—not the influence of those trying to dictate terms."

Defending the Musi Rejuvenation Project

The MP took a sharp swipe at critics of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Musi River rejuvenation project. He claimed that "vested interests" are venting personal malice and spreading falsehoods to overshadow the project's long-term benefits for the state.

Why Congress is Targeting Misinformation

A central theme of the MP’s speech was the "gap in communication" regarding government welfare schemes. His focus on curbing social media misinformation stems from a growing concern within the Congress party regarding narrative hijacking.

The Congress leadership has observed a recurring pattern where successful welfare implementations are overshadowed by isolated grievances amplified by "bot" accounts or opposition-aligned social media handles.

The 90/10 Rule: As Reddy pointed out, even if 90% of the population benefits from a scheme, the 10% who may face technical delays are often weaponized on social media to create a "false narrative of total failure."

Perception vs. Reality: In the digital age, a single viral video of a dissatisfied individual can reach more people than a government report detailing millions of beneficiaries.

Strategic Obstruction: The party views the misinformation surrounding the Musi project as a deliberate attempt to stall infrastructure development through public panic.

By stressing the need to curb this misinformation, Reddy is calling for Congress leaders to become active digital advocates. The goal is to ensure that the "Progress Report" he mentioned isn't just written in government files, but is clearly understood by the electorate, free from the distortions of social media echo chambers.
