The terms of Prabhu Suresh Prabhakar (BJP), T.G Venkatesh (BJP), Yalamanchili Satyanarayana Chowdary (BJP), and Venumbaka Vijaya Sai Reddy (YSRCP) from Andhra Pradesh are ending on 21 June. The terms of Lakshmikanta Rao Voditela (TRS) and Srinivas Dharmapuri (TRS who has now joined Congress) are ending on 21 June.
The term of office of 57 members of the Council of States elected from 15 states is due to expire on their retirement between June and August 2022. The maximum number of seats (11) will go for election in Uttar Pradesh. Six seats each are up for election in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Other states where elections are due include Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Haryana.
Also, the Election Commission recently announced the schedule for the by-election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat left vacant by the resignation of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and influential Mudiraj community leader Banda Prakash in December 2021. The bypoll will be held on 30 May.
Banda Prakash, who resigned after the ruling TRS suffered an embarrassing defeat in the high-stakes Huzurabad Assembly by-election last October, is now a member of the State Legislative Council. The TRS candidate in the Huzurabad by-election was defeated by TRS party turncoat Eatala Rajender, who had won on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.
