Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Anumula Revanth Reddy on Monday filed a police complaint at the Jubilee Hills police station against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his derogatory comments about Rahul Gandhi.
Congress leaders in the state lodged complaints against Mr. Sarma at various police stations, demanding his arrest.
Revanth Reddy, in his complaint, asked the police to take action against Mr. Sarma for making defamatory and demeaning statements against Rahul Gandhi which created enmity between the people. He said that on 11 February, Mr. Sarma, while addressing a rally in Uttarakhand, had passed a defamatory and demeaning statement against Rahul Gandhi, saying "did we ask for proof that you are Rajiv Gandhi's son?"
He further added, "Holding a constitutional post of the Chief Minister of a state, Himanta Biswa Sarma has not only attempted to defame and derogate Rahul Gandhi, a Member of Parliament, and create enmity between people of the nation causing disturbance to the public tranquillity, but also disrespected his post and the constitutional values by his statements."
The TPCC chief requested the police to lodge an FIR take cognizance of the offenses, including but not limited to defamation, making statements creating enmity between the people of the nation, and causing hindrance to public peace and tranquillity.
