Revanth: HC cancelling TSPSC Prelims reflects state’s negligence; Congress will do better

Hyderabad: Calling the Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) a ‘political rehabilitation centre’, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy said that the government is appointing people who could not get positions in politics as TSPSC board members.

“This kind of situation would not have happened if the TSPSC board had been abolished and deserving people were appointed when the paper leak happened. Is chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao the reason for this negligence?” questioned Revanth Reddy, also blaming IT minister KT Rama Rao for the irregularities seen in the TSPSC.

“The government stubbornly held the Group-1 exam without abolishing the board. The High Court’s verdict is a slap in the face to the state government. This situation is due to the improper implementation of the exam,” Revanth Reddy said.

Four days ago, the Telangana High Court cancelled the Group-I Preliminary Examination held on June 11, 2023, and directed the TSPSC to hold the Prelims again. This is the second time the exam has been cancelled.

Revanth Reddy assured the public that the party will come up with a job calendar after Congress comes into power in the upcoming elections. “We will fill two lakh government jobs within a year of coming to power,” he assured.

The Division Bench, comprising Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti, said the TSPSC ought to have been more careful and cautious in conducting the Group-1 preliminary examination as this was the second time it was holding this examination. The court found fault with the TSPSC in not issuing an addendum saying that they will be dispensing with the biometric screening of the candidates, as done in the case of Group 2 examination and it ought to have been conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

The Division Bench dismissed the writ appeal filed by the TSPSC seeking a direction to set aside the order on September 23 passed by Justice P Madhavi Devi, cancelling the Group 1 preliminary examination held on June 11.
