‘Stop misleading people’: Bhongir MP Kiran Kumar targets KTR over Musi Project

Bhongir MP Kiran Kumar claims KTR is spreading misinformation on Musi Project

Hyderabad: Bhongir Member of Parliament, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, accused BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) of spreading ‘fake narratives’ regarding the Musi River rejuvenation project.

The MP’s remarks come as a counter-offensive to KTR’s recent presentation, which sought to challenge Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s vision for the river’s development.

What is the vision for Musi?

Defending the State government’s plans, the MP highlighted that CM Revanth Reddy’s PowerPoint presentation on October 13 provided a clear roadmap for the project.

The goal includes cleaning drainage water, pumping treated water and eventually bringing Godavari River waters to the Musi.

The project aims to emulate the successful restoration models of the Sabarmati and Ganga rivers, the MP said.

“I have personally visited the Sabarmati Riverfront,” the MP stated. “In Gujarat, the then CM Narendra Modi and Ahmedabad Congress Mayor Himmat Singh Patel collaborated to develop the riverfront. It is a testament to how the BJP and Congress can work together for development. Why can’t KTR show the same spirit for Hyderabad’s economic growth?”

Allegations of misinformation

Kiran Kumar Reddy dismissed KTR’s claims that the project would cost Rs 1.5 lakh crore, calling it a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

“KTR is projecting a cost of Rs 1.5 lakh crore to scare the people. He is the one who turned the Kaleshwaram project into ‘Kaleshwaram ruins’ with his mismanagement. With Rs 1.5 lakh crore, we could not only develop the Musi but also complete all pending projects in South Telangana.”

The MP further corrected KTR’s claims regarding the Gandhi Sarovar, noting that while the CM quoted Rs 70 crore for the project, KTR was falsely claiming it would cost Rs 5,000 crore.

MP Kiran Kumar challenges Opposition

The Bhongir MP challenged KTR and Telangana BJP leaders, including Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, to a field trip.

He urged them to take the Telangana media to Ahmedabad to witness the Sabarmati Riverfront development firsthand and speak with local officials. He questioned why KTR, who travels globally, failed to see the successful restoration of the Thames (London) or the Han River (Seoul) and why such a vision never occurred to the BRS during their 10-year rule.

Housing and politics

Addressing KTR’s allegations that the Congress government is only ‘demolishing’ and not ‘building,’ the MP pointed out that the current government has sanctioned 3,500 houses per constituency. He challenged KTR to debate in either Sircilla or Bhongir to discuss development statistics.

Concluding his statement, Kiran Kumar Reddy remarked that the BRS is still unable to digest its 2023 electoral defeat. “The people have already taught them a lesson. BRS and BJP have now become ‘secret friends’ to sabotage the state’s progress. It is time KTR stops the fake propaganda and plays the role of a constructive opposition,” he said.
