Amaravati: Guntur police on Thursday questioned senior YSRCP leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, who had served as an adviser to former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in the TDP Mangalagiri office attack case.
On October 19, 2021, a large group of YSRCP supporters attacked the TDP office in Mangalagiri following controversial comments made by TDP spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram against the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The attackers barged into the office and vandalized the furniture.
Ramakrishna Reddy turned up at Mangalagiri rural police station on Thursday. Former additional advocate general P Sudhakar Reddy accompanied him. He was questioned for two hours in the attack case.
After adding Sajjala as an accused person in the case, he was summoned for questioning as per a High Court order. According to Mangalagiri police, Reddy is one of 120 accused in the case. The case was first registered in 2021 and was recently handed over to the CID. However, the CID sleuths are yet to take up the case, prompting Mangalagiri rural police to continue with their probe until then.
During the probe, police noted that Ramakrishna Reddy said that he could not particularly recollect the developments of the three-year-old case. "He answered some questions and for some, he replied that he could not remember as three years have lapsed," said a police official, adding that CID could summon him further.
Moreover, the official observed that Ramakrishna Reddy currently has interim protection from the High Court against any coercive action by police.
Former YSRCP MLC Nandigama Suresh, MLCs Lella Appireddy, Talasila Raghuram, and party leader Devineni Avinash were also implicated in the case. Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government has handed over the two cases, the TDP office attack case and the attack on Chandrababu Naidu's residence, to the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
Five days ago, Guntur police issued a lookout notice for Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy. On Monday, immigration officials at New Delhi Airport briefly detained Reddy upon his return from abroad as he was preparing to board a flight to Hyderabad. He was subsequently allowed to proceed.
