TDP Guntur MP Galla Jayadev quits politics, says will focus on business

Guntur: TDP Parliamentary party leader and Guntur MP Galla Jayadev announced that he is quitting politics. On Sunday, he announced his decision stating that he cannot continue as a part-time politician owing to the pressing need to attend to his businesses.

Galla Jayadev, managing director of Amara Raja Group, took over as the MD of Amara Raja Batteries in 2003 from his father. Trying to follow the steps of his mother Galla Aruna Kumari, he contested in the 16th Lok Sabha election from the Guntur constituency in Andhra Pradesh and won with a big margin.

Addressing the media in Guntur, Jayadev said, ā€œAfter entering into politics, those things which I thought were my strength turned out to be a weakness. Iā€™m unable to do my job perfectly. The current limitations in politics are forcing me to stay silent and stop me from speaking against Centre. My business limitations are keeping me silent in the state,ā€ said Jayadev

ā€œI canā€™t be a mute MP, hence I decided not to contest in the 2024 elections. Two years ago, my father retired and handed over the business to me. I have to take care of my business. I canā€™t do anything half-heartedly so I have decided to stay away from politics,ā€ said Jayadev.

ā€œThis is only temporary, I might come back to politics if Iā€™m welcomed to contest again,ā€ he added.

As an MP, Jayadev spoke on several issues of public interest in the Parliament. His description and analysis on the subject of tolerance in India was appreciated by the general public. His comment that Baahubali movie collections are more than the funds allocated to Andhra Pradesh is popular among the public.
