Hyderabad: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday decided to limit the ongoing Winter Session to a week, with sittings scheduled from January 2 to January 7, 2026, after the House was adjourned on its opening day.
One-week winter session finalised
The decision was taken at the BAC meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, BRS MLA T Harish Rao, BJP floor leader A Maheshwar Reddy and AIMIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi.
According to the BAC’s decision, the Assembly will reconvene on January 2 and continue its proceedings till January 7.
BRS pushes for 15-day winter session
Briefing reporters, Harish Rao said the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had pressed for a 15-day Winter Session to allow detailed discussions on key issues.
However, the Speaker agreed to only a seven-day session, while assuring that the BAC could be convened again to review the duration, if required.
PowerPoint presentation demand
Harish Rao said he had requested the Speaker to permit the BRS to make a PowerPoint presentation on issues it wished to raise in the House.
“The Speaker has said he would examine the request. In the past, when such permission was denied, the present Deputy Chief Minister had boycotted the House as a CLP leader. Should we also be forced to take a similar stand if permission is not granted?” he asked.
Questions over fewer working days
Expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Assembly, the former irrigation minister pointed out that in the last two years, only six days were earmarked for Question Hour.
“This year, the House has met for just 15 days so far. I urged the Speaker to take up the constitution of various Assembly committees at the earliest and criticised delays in providing the agenda, besides flagging protocol-related issues,” the BRS MLA said.
BJP seeks 20-day session
BJP floor leader A Maheshwar Reddy said his party had demanded that the Assembly sessions be held for at least 20 days. He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wanted discussions on 32 important public issues during the winter session.
