Telangana Congress files complaint against BRS MLC for violating poll code

Telangana: The Congress party in Telangana filed its first complaint against a BRS party leader for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), for claims about the ruling partyā€™s relation with government officials.

On Thursday, Telangana Congress senior vice-president G Niranjan wrote a letter to the chief election commissioner of India (CEC) Rajiv Kumar to take immediate action on the issue. According to the Congress leader, a speech given by BRS MLC Tata Madhu, who is also the president of the party in Khammam district, violated the MCC.

ā€œIn the speech, Madhu could be seen claiming that all welfare schemes belong to the party. He also claimed that all the government officials, including MROs, RDOs, collectors, commissioners, ACPs, and CIs, take orders from the government,ā€ the Congress said in its complaint and attached a video clipping of Madhuā€™s speech.

'BRS releasing funds after poll code announcement'

The party also submitted a list of tenders issued by the Wanaparthy municipality in a hurry. ā€œSome of the bids in the tender were announced after the model code of conduct came into effect on October 9,ā€ the party alleged.

A day before, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy said that no funds should be released except pensions till elections. However, the officials in the Telangana government are violating the rules by releasing funds for various government schemes.

ā€œFinance Secretary Rama Krishna Rao has been in his current position since the formation of the state. In the previous election, voters waiting in line to vote received messages about the Rythu Bandhu funds. We are going to be very vigilant and file complaints against them in the election commission this time,ā€ Revanth said.

A special committee has been created where party workers and Congress supporters can complain about the activities of government officials favouring the ruling BRS. The committee will then file complaints with the Election Commission of India.
