Hyderabad: Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar expressed her support for Telangana on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day at Gandhi Bhavan Sabha on Friday. She delivered a speech highlighting her connection with the Telugu language and thanked Sonia Gandhi for understanding the suffering of the people of Telangana.
In her address, Meira Kumar emphasised the need for change and stated, “Everyone has cheated the people of Telangana, but Sonia understood the people of Telangana.”
She appreciated the presence of revolutionaries on the stage and said, “This stage is lit up because revolutionaries are sitting on this stage.”
Reflecting on the nine years since the formation of Telangana, Meira Kumar expressed both happiness and sadness. “I am happy that nine years have passed since the formation of Telangana. However, it is sad that the situation in Telangana has not changed in nine years. The problems of Telangana farmers and workers remain the same.”
Drawing attention to the challenges faced by the people of Telangana, she urged everyone to look beyond Hyderabad. “If you look a little sideways from Hyderabad, you will know the situation in Telangana. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are upset with the situation of Telangana.”
Promising the Congress party’s dedication to improving the lives of Telangana people, Meira Kumar said, “Congress will work hard to change the sufferings of Telangana. The idea of Congress is to move forward inclusively.”
She assured the audience of her willingness to visit Telangana at any time and said, “Whenever you call me, I will come to Telangana with just one call.”
