Revanth Reddy on Thursday expressed confidence that the Congress would achieve the target of enrolling 30 lakh members from Telangana as part of the party's nationwide membership drive.
Launching the membership drive at Kodangal in Vikarabad district on the occasion of the birthday of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Revanth Reddy explained the significance and importance 9 December. He said it was on the same day in 2009 when the then Congress-led UPA government had announced the formation of Telangana. Despite several obstacles and severe opposition by many leaders within and outside the party and the government, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had decided to grant statehood to the Telangana region and put an end to the era of discrimination and injustice, the TPCC chief said.
Revanth said that the main objective of forming Telangana could not be achieved as the TRS government had failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao treated Telangana as his personal fiefdom and worked only for the benefit of his family and friends, he alleged.
"Sonia Gandhi granted statehood for Telangana with a clear objective of empowering people and it is the duty of the Congress party to ensure that those aspirations of the people of Telangana are fulfilled," he said.
He said he had given his word to Sonia Gandhi that we would enroll 30 lakh members in the state and was confident of doing so. He added that the membership drive would be online, transparent, and without any errors. There will be one enroller for each of the over 34,000 polling booths across the state. Our intention is to take the message of Congress president Sonia Gandhi to each and every village, hamlet, and locality through digital mode, he said.
He also said that every member joining the Congress party would get a life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh. The TPCC chief exhorted the party cadres to take up the membership drive with utmost sincerity. "The enrollment of 30 lakh members will not only strengthen the party, but it will help us in achieving the real objective behind forming Telangana," he said adding that the success of the membership drive would help Congress win the next elections.
"Telangana will get Soniamma Rajyam after next elections and it will bring prosperity to all sections of the society as it happened during Indiramma Rajyam," he added
