In a symbolic beginning for the Congress party’s campaign, the TPCC chief kickstarted the ‘Mana Munugode Mana Congress’ initiative from Porlugadda Thanda of Narayanapuram mandal in Munugode. The event was also timed to coincide with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 20 Aug 2022 9:01 AM GMTMunugode: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy on 20 August made an impassioned appeal to the Left parties and Prof. Kodandaram to come together with the Congress for the Munugode by-election and safeguard democracy in the state.
In a symbolic beginning for the Congress party's campaign, the TPCC chief kickstarted the 'Mana Munugode Mana Congress' initiative from Porlugadda Thanda of Narayanapuram mandal in Munugode. The event was also timed to coincide with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Revanth went around the houses in the thanda asking them to support the Congress in the by-poll.
Earlier, speaking after launching the party's campaign, Revanth Reddy expressed confidence that both the CPI and CPM would sail along with the Congress in Munugode. He said he had met Prof. Kodandaram to seek his support in Munugode.
Interestingly, Revanth's call comes at a time when the CPI seems to be working along with the TRS for the crucial by-election.
Revanth targeted both the BJP and the TRS and said democracy was in jeopardy in the country because of these parties. He appealed to the electorate of Munugode to side with the Congress to keep democracy alive.
Revanth pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on birth anniversary
The TPCC chief, while paying glowing tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, devoted most of his time reminding the people about the former Prime Minister's contribution to the progress of the country. He said it was only the Congress, under the leadership of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, that reached the benefits of welfare measures to the poor.
Claiming that Rajiv Gandhi was instrumental in bringing about revolutionary changes in the country, he said his partymen would enlighten the people about the services rendered to the country by the former Prime Minister.
Revanth also lauded the contribution of tribals who, he said, provided life support to the Congress party. Keeping in view the many welfare schemes that Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi introduced for the tribals, he chose a tribal area (Porlugadda Thanda) to observe the former PM's birth anniversary.
He said the youth should play a proactive role in the by-election to put an end to "sellout politics." He also directed the Congressmen to affix stickers on every house in all villages and highlight the party's achievements.
Revanth's campaign push in Munugode incidentally comes hours before a mammoth public meeting planned by the TRS featuring Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
