TRS will discuss, introspect why we did not get desired result: KTR

Hyderabad: Accepting the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls results, the Telangana Rastriya Samithi (TRS) president and minister K.T Rama Rao said the party will discuss why it did not achieve the desired results.

The GHMC polls have paved the way for the BJP in urban areas of Hyderabad. The TRS that won a thumping majority of 99 seats in the 2016 elections was reduced to 56 in 2020 while the BJP went from winning just four seats to 46, registering a massive vote share. The AIMIM which was the second-largest party in 2016, slipped to the third position and the Congress was reduced to just two seats.

During a short press conference following the elections, KTR said, "I would like to thank the people of Hyderabad who voted for TRS and elected our candidate. The results are certainly not what the TRS desired. We are short of 20-25 seats. The fact is that we lost in 10-12 divisions, including BN Reddy Nagar, Malkajgiri, and Moula Ali by a narrow margin."

He further said, "I thank every single TRS worker who travelled to Hyderabad and campaigned for the party, including the TRS social media warrior. The party will discuss and introspect why we did not get the desired result. However, I would like to place on record that TRS is the single largest party."
