TS becoming tourist spot because of upcoming election: Kalvakuntla Kavitha

Hyderabad: TRS MLC and former Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday attacked BJP president J.P Nadda and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's upcoming visit to the state and said Telangana is becoming a tourist spot because the election is coming.

Attacking the BJP president J.P Nadda's visit to Mahabubnagar on Thursday, the TRS leader said he is coming to start clashes between communities and create differences among people. "Our work is not like that, that is BJP's work. We believe that the people of Telangana will understand this conspiracy and will be with TRS and KCR," said Ms. Kavitha.

She also attacked Rahul Gandhi's visit on Friday to Warangal and said when TRS was fighting the paddy issue, they had requested Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue in Parliament and support the farmers of Telangana. "He did not talk about Telangana's farmers in the Parliament. Now he is coming to Warangal and doing a public rally as Rythu Sangharshana Sabha. This is all politics. This is not Rythu Sangharshana Sabha, this is Rahul Gandhi's his own Sangarshna Sabha," she said.

Ms. Kavitha continued, "I am asking a direct question to the MPs of Telangana. Did you raise the issue of paddy in Parliament? If you didn't, then you have no right to do it in Warangal. The farmers' policies of Telangana are being followed by every state, so what is the point of Rythu Sangharshana Sabha in Warangal."

She alleged that IITs and NITs were not sanctioned for Telangana and that none of the Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, talk about the issues of Telangana. "Telangana was created in 2014 but Rahul Gandhi never spoke about the state in Parliament. Why is he coming to Osmania University or Warangal?" she asked.

'Nizamabad MP deceived farmers'

The MLC also attacked the current Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri and said he had failed to persuade the Union government to establish a turmeric board in the district.

Ms. Kavitha said she didn't speak on the subject for the last three years because she wanted to respect the mandate delivered by the people of Nizamabad and give the current MP time to do something regarding his promises to the farmers of the district. She also cited an RTI reply on the budget allocated with respect to turmeric-producing farmers.

"Mr. Arvind, in the last three years, could only get an allocation of Rs. 1.92 crore for nearly one lakh turmeric farmers. If you divide it between all of them, it boils down to less than Rs. 250. All he did was deceive farmers by distributing a bond paper," she alleged.
