Vijaya Sai Reddy reiterates demand for Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: YSRCP Parliamentary party leader V. Vijaya Sai Reddy raised issues regarding the state at the all-party meeting held virtually on Saturday. These topics will be considered for discussion during the ongoing Budget Session.

On the topic of special status for Andhra Pradesh, he said that since the 15th Finance Commission has left the mandate to decide on the SCS on the Union government, he urged the government to grant the status. He said that the inter-linking of rivers must be made a national project, funded by the government and the water must be shared equally in the geographical areas.

He requested that the Principal Bench of the High Court be shifted to Kurnool now that Kurnool will become the judicial capital among the three capitals of AP. He reiterated the demand for a separate South Coast Railway Zone for AP and retention of Waltair Division in Vizag. Since women constitute just 13% (103 MPs) of the total members of the Parliament, he suggested a revised bill for 50% reservation of women in the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, both houses of the Parliament and at all elected and nominated posts under the central and state governments.

He proposed amendments to the IPC and CrPC to expedite the disposal of cases involving atrocities against women (DISHA Act of AP provides for disposal in 21 days), and stricter criminal procedure laws for rape convicts in terms of no-parole and no-furlough.
