Hyderabad: Telangana Congress has collected 12 lakh signatures in the state against the alleged ‘vote chori’. The petition with the signatures will be submitted to President Droupadi Murmu.
The Indian National Congress has organised a ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ (vote thief, leave the throne) rally at Ram Leela Maidan in New Delhi to protest against alleged ‘vote theft’ and the undermining of autonomous institutions by the BJP-led Central government.
The Congress party, led by the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) members from across the country, participated in the rally.
Telangana CM, MPs mark attendance
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Mahesh Kumar Goud, Telangana Members of Parliament and other Congress leaders reached Delhi for the rally.
CM Revanth Reddy and Mahesh Kumar Goud left with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday night after the football tournament in Hyderabad.
Show of unity
The Congress leaders across different states have come in large numbers for the rally to show their strong unity, say insiders.
The signature campaign across all states has been taken by the Congress cadre and the said has been sent to AICC to be presented to the President.
‘More than one crore votes manipulated’
TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud said, “The rally is being organised against the theft of votes and the dilution of democratic integrity.”
“BJP is debilitating autonomous institutions and is using the Election Commission of India as its pocket organisation,” said Goud.
Goud further alleged that more than one crore votes were manipulated in the Parliament and Maharashtra elections. He says, “This massive protest is an eye-opener for the Central government.”
What are the vote chori allegations by Rahul Gandhi?
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleges that the vote chori/vote theft by the BJP, in collusion with the Election Commission of India, systematically subverted democracy.
Gandhi alleged that this is done by manipulating voter rolls through the targeted deletion of Congress-supporting voters (Dalits, Adivasis, minorities) and the addition of fake and duplicate voters (citing examples like a Brazilian model’s photo used for 22 IDs in Haryana).
