‘What wrong did KCR do?’ Kavitha slams Congress for ‘targeting’ KCR via Ghose panel in Kaleshwaram probe
Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha on Wednesday accused the Congress government of constituting the Justice PC Ghose Commission on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) as a political tool aimed at defaming former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and tarnishing the image of the previous BRS government.
Leading a protest at Dharna Chowk against the notices issued by the commission to KCR, Kavitha dismissed the inquiry as a ‘Congress Commission’ focused on political vendetta rather than accountability. “What wrong did KCR do? Issuing notices to him is like issuing notices to the entire Telangana populace,” she said amid slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’ and ‘Jai KCR.’
Kavitha questions MEIL’s role
Kavitha emphasised the transformative impact of the Kaleshwaram project, which involves 21 pump houses, 15 reservoirs, 200 km of tunnels and 1,500 km of canals, lifting water from 90 to 600 meters to irrigate nearly 40 lakh acres and supply water to Hyderabad and industries.
She questioned why the commission had not summoned Krishna Reddy of Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), the company that built 15 pump houses in the project, noting MEIL’s significant role during the Congress-led Jala Yagnam irrigation works in Andhra Pradesh.
Criticising the current Congress government, Kavitha pointed to its failure to maintain the Medigadda barrage, resulting in water shortages for farmers, while unfairly blaming others for the crisis. She also took aim at Telangana Congress chief and CM A Revanth Reddy for his silence on Andhra Pradesh’s Banakacherla project and the Godavari-Penna rivers interlinking, accusing him of ignoring Telangana’s water diversion concerns.
Kavitha asks MP Eatela to speak on water projects with AP
Kavitha further urged BJP leaders, especially MP Eatela Rajender, who has roots in the Telangana statehood movement, to speak out against Andhra Pradesh’s alleged illegal water projects and to seek national status for Telangana’s irrigation initiatives. She lamented that despite Telangana having eight MPs and MLAs from the BJP, the State receives little support from the BJP-led Centre.
Warning of intensified protests if the government tries to prevent their demonstrations, Kavitha condemned police action detaining Telangana Jagruthi members from Mancherial and Ramagundam, vowing to continue their agitation until Telangana secures its rightful 1,000 TMC water share from the Godavari River.
