Will Rahul end up in Sec’bd Railway Station for trusting Revanth: Sabitha Reddy
The three women BRS MLAs alleged that women of the State were feeling insecure and parents were worried about their daughters
By Mahesh Avadhutha Published on 1 Aug 2024 1:29 PM GMTHyderabad: We stood in the Assembly for four and half hours continuously (10 am to 2.30 pm) seeking an opportunity to speak on rapes and crimes against women in Telangana, but our efforts went in vain, lamented BRS MLAs P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and Kova Lakshmi. Barring a couple of MLAs, nobody, not even the Speaker, CM, Legislative Minister or others bothered to request us to have a seat even though three women members were continuously standing, they rued.
Addressing media at Telangana Bhavan in the evening, the three women BRS MLAs alleged that women of the State were feeling insecure and parents were worried about sending their daughters out of their homes.
“The sad thing is that neither CM (who also holds the Home portfolio) nor the government is making any statement in the House to assure the women of the State that they would not spare anyone committing rapes against women. Almost five incidents of rapes against women in less than 48 hours is an indication of the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, Sabitha Indra Reddy said.
Congress discriminating against women legislators
The Congress government takes the names of Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, but they illtreat women of the State and discriminate against women legislators.
Although treasury benches criticised BRS members for protesting near the Speaker podium and even slammed them for trying to create a ruckus in the House preventing proper discussion still hanging to the altercation between Sabitha Indra Reddy and CM. The three women legislators, however, reasoned, in the press meeting, that they did not request mike to speak on yesterday’s developments.
“We came to Assembly today just to get an answer and statement from the government regarding crimes against women and concrete steps that they would take to stop them,” Sabitha Indra Reddy said.
The administration has gone for a toss in Congress rule as CM Revanth Reddy and his team are solely bent on targeting BRS and K Chandrashekar Rao, the MLAs lamented.
‘Will Rahul Gandhi end up in Secunderabad Railway Station?’
Going by the chief minister’s logic, will Rahul Gandhi who had trusted Revanth Reddy will end up in front of Secunderabad Railway Station. Yesterday CM was making a similar statement against us, Sabitha pointed out. Revanth Reddy’s actions and behaviour are uncalled for by a person holding the CM’s post. It is looking like a sadistic government that is ruling Telangana, she said not mincing her words.
At least we hope that the government will allow us to speak on crime against women in Telangana in the Assembly on Friday, the former minister said.
Is changing party a big issue, Sunitha asks Revanth
Echoing similar sentiments, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy said that junior legislators were laughing and mocking them when they stood for four and half hours in the house, which felt like insulting behaviour.
Sunitha said that she, Sabitha Indra Reddy and even DK Aruna (who joined BJP) had to leave Congress because of ill-treatment and sidelining in the party by the state leadership. If changing party is a big issue, then what Revanth Reddy has to say about his political career, she questioned.
