Visakhapatnam: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address a public meeting in Visakhapatnam on 8 June, while BJP president J.P. Nadda will hold a meeting in Tirupati on 10 June. Ahead of the elections, the BJP is likely giving an indication to step into Andhra Pradesh.

On Sunday, Andhra BJP state president Somu Veera Raju reached Visakhapatnam to check the arrangements for the meeting.

The public meeting will be held in Sarada bakery ground in Marripalem.

Officially, Amit Shah’s visit to Vizag is said to be part of the nationwide tour of senior BJP leaders and Union ministers, marking the completion of nine years of the BJP government at the Centre headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP’s meeting in Andhra is likely to mark significant political changes ahead of the elections.

Naidu meets Shah, likely to meet Modi

On 3 June, TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu visited New Delhi and met both Amit Shah and J.P. Nadda. The meeting came in the backdrop of speculation over a possible alliance between BJP and its former alliance partner TDP in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The meeting ahead of the elections in both states is raising questions.

Chandrababu Naidu is in Delhi to attend the consultative meeting of the leaders on G20. He is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

It may be noted that in recent times, Mr. Naidu was seen praising Mr. Modi and his efforts of reformation. During a speech in April, he called PM Modi a “visionary leader.” He has also been vocal about his willingness to associate with Mr. Modi in the nation-building process.

TDP was a part of the NDA in 2014 but quit the ruling alliance in March 2018 before the 2019 elections on the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh.
