On Monday, the volunteers conducted massive protests at district collectorates across the state over Pawan’s comments and demanded an apology from the actor-politician.
What led to this are the controversial comments made by Pawan Kalyan during a public meeting in Guntur as a part of the Varahi election campaign. “In Andhra Pradesh, Around 18,000 women went missing and did not return home. What Intelligence told me is that the YSRCP, through a volunteer scheme, are tracking the data of girls, widows, and women in every family. The village/ward volunteers are behind women trafficking in the state,” said Pawan Kalyan.
According to Pawan Kalyan, around 30,000 women went missing in the state during the YSRCP rule. Among them, 14,000 were rescued, as per police records. However, the details of the others haven’t been provided by the police.
He stated that the volunteers are tracking single women and their details and misusing said information by giving it to anti-social groups, leading to human trafficking. There are around 2.5 lakh volunteers in the state. “Many big leaders of YSRCP are involved in woman trafficking. I was told by the Intelligence to inform the same and alert the women and youth in the state to be vigilant,” said Pawan Kalyan.
