Hyderabad: Post abrogation of Article 370, Pakistan has tried hard to push in as many as militants into Jammu and Kashmir to keep the terror pot boiling. While 138 terrorists were killed in between March to August in 2020.

Data reveals that since the abrogation of article 370, 111 infiltration attempts from across the border have been successful.

There have been 176 infiltration bids from across the border since August 5, 2019, when parliament abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Latest being on September 15 when the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major infiltration bid by a group of militants along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The terrorist took advantage of the thick forest region and tried to infiltrate. However, they ran back when the BSF personnel opened fire on them,” said the spokesperson of BSF

Around 138 terrorists have been neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir from March 1 to August 31 this year. Around 50 security force personnel have also attained martyrdom in terrorist-related incidents and ceasefire violations/cross border firings in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a written reply, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said regular attempts for infiltration by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir are sponsored and supported from across the border.

“India’s land borders are characterized by deserts, mountains, forests, and riverine terrain. The government has adopted a multi-pronged approach to stop cross-border intrusions and secure our territories, which inter-alia include deployment,” MHA said.

To thwart attempts the respective defence wings have deployed ‘Border Guarding Forces’ along the International Borders.

A high number of infiltration takes placed towards North Kashmir's Line of Control. Recently, Five top militants and five elite para commandos were killed along the LoC in Keran sector in April this year. One of the commando had participated in surgical strikes

“They keep a guard by patrolling, laying Nakas, manning observation posts along the borders, vulnerability mapping of Border Out Posts (BOPs). A robust surveillance system is in place including equipment, strengthening of the intelligence network, erection of border fencing & floodlighting, and deployment of technological solutions in non-feasible areas like riverine gaps,” the MHA said.

The Center also informed that, 138 terrorists have been neutralized in Jammu and Kashmir from January till date. During this period of six months, 50 security force personnel have attained martyrdom in terrorist related incidents and ceasefire violations/cross border firings in Jammu and Kashmir.
