Pregnant teen dies after her mother tries to deliver her baby in Jagtial

Hyderabad: A pregnant teen and her child died while the girl's mother was attempting to deliver the baby in Jagtial district of Telangana.

The incident took place in Dharmapuri town in the district two days ago but came to light only on 12 October.

According to sources, the 17-year-old girl was in love with a boy from the same neighborhood and the two had an affair, following which the girl became pregnant. Her mother came know of her pregnancy and prevented her from stepping out of the home again.

A few days ago, the girl developed pains but the mother gave her some medication and the pain soon subsided. Then, a couple of days ago, the girl went into labor. But the mother, instead of taking the girl to hospital, tried to deliver the baby herself. The girl started bleeding profusely and both the mother and the newborn died.

Meanwhile, the woman buried her daughter and the stillborn child on the outskirts in an isolated area. Later, the neighbors noticed her suspicious movements and inquired about her daughter. When she failed to provide answers, they alerted the local authorities.

The police questioned the woman on Monday and to their shock found that the girl and her child had died and had been buried. With the assistance of municipal, revenue, and medical officials, the police exhumed the bodies and sent them for postmortem. A case has been registered against the woman. Meanwhile, the police are also trying to track down the girl’s boyfriend. He is also likely to be booked for rape and impregnating a minor girl.
