Hyderabad: A rag picker was injured in a mysterious blast that ripped through a garbage dump at Musheerabad in Hyderabad.

Panic gripped the area after the blast with people fearing that some explosive material might have gone off. Police however said no explosives were used and there is nothing to panic about.

Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar took to social media informing that a blast took place in a garbage bin at Risala Bazar area at 10.45 am.

Forensic experts have examined the bin and found no explosives.

“A rag picker was injured in the incident and he was immediately rushed to the hospital,” he said.

The injured rag picker was identified Nagayya. Sources said he was collecting scrap from the bin when the blast occurred. There was loud bang which caused panic among the people living in the neighborhood

Police and teams from the fire department immediately cordoned off the area and started probe. It is suspected that the paint box could have been dumped in the bin by a resident. The blast could have been caused due to the reaction of chemicals in the paint box.

Similar explosion was reported at Rajendranagar in September that left a rag picker dead. Another explosion at Nacharam in October injured a toddler.
