By Pranita Jonnalagedda Published on 20 Jan 2020 10:02 AM GMTSuperstar Rajinikanth celebrated his 69th birthday on December 12, 2019. Even at this age, the actor continues to rule the roost with his films. In the last couple of years, Thalaivar has realised his true potential and is continuously playing roles that are close to his age which also brings a sense of realism to his films.
On January 9, his latest film Darbar hit the screens and has now successfully crossed Rs 200 crore worldwide. This is indeed a great achievement for the ageing actor as this is the fifth Rs 200 crore film under his credit. Apart from Darbar, Rajinikanth’s Enthiran, Kabali, 2.0 and Petta have also crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office.
Darbar, directed by AR Murugadoss, released in over 4000 screens across the globe in three languages namely Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. While the film is being lapped up by the audience in Tamil and Telugu, the Hindi version of Darbar failed to register decent numbers at the box office. Some of the trade reports reveal that the film is a complete washout in the North belt.
Rajinikanth’s Darbar is a cop thriller that follows the story of Commissioner Aaditya Arunasalam, who is on a mission to put an end to the drug menace that is rocking the city of Mumbai. In the process, he loses his beloved daughter Valli, played by Nivetha Thomas. How he avenges the death of daughter and busts the drug racket forms the rest of the story.
The film received mixed reviews from the critics and audience alike. While everyone appreciated the film’s first half, many of them pointed out that the second half of the film feels rushed and illogical. The film is still continuing its dream run in the theatres and is going strong.
