Ranveer recreates Kapil Dev’s iconic Natraj pose

Hyderabad: Movie ’83, the biopic on India’s ODI World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, has been in the news ever since its launch announcement.

The Kabir Khan-directorial, which has Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev Nikhanj and Deepika Padukone as his wife Romi Dev, was wrapped up in Mumbai recently.

Expectations are huge even as fans of Ranveer and Kapil Dev are awaiting its release with bated breath. To pep up their excitement, the makers of ’83 unveiled a new still in which Ranveer can be seen recreating the iconic Natraj pose of Kapil Dev to sublime perfection.

A highlight of the tournament, and presumed to be the turning point in India’s fortunes, was the blistering unbeaten 175 that the skipper scored when the chips were down at a pitiable 17 for five against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells. Sadly for Indian buffs, because of a BBC strike, the match was not telecast live. The film, though, captures the essence of the match, and Kapil’s memorable innings, quite appropriately.

One should give it to the professional in Ranveer as he achieved an amazing physical transformation for the film by becoming leaner, and sporting a rugged rustic look. Kapil Dev is a Jat from Haryana and his prowess are part of cricketing folklore!

Besides Ranveer and Deepika, the film has Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Adinath Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shastri, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny, R Badree as Sunil Valson, Boman Irani as Farokh Engineer and Pankaj Tripathi as PR. Man Singh, who was manager of the history-creating Kapil’s Devils.

Interestingly, this is the first time since their marriage that Ranveer and Deepika will share screen space. The last time they were seen together was in the period film, Padmaavat, though they did not pair up.

Post-production of the film is progressing at a brisk pace, although the makers are yet to announce its release date.
