Vijayawada: Only 175 IT companies have been operating in Andhra Pradesh since 2014.

Around 214 IT companies have now expressed their willingness to establish their campus in Vizag and Vijayawada.

In an RTI reply to Society for Safety of Public and Good Governance, the AP government said 175 IT companies have been operating in the state since 2014.

During a meeting in Vizag city, Minister for IT and Industries Mekapati Goutham Reddy said 30,428 IT jobs were created in Andhra Pradesh since 2014. He said that a total of 175 new companies have made an investment of Rs 1,027 crore in the State, of which Pi Datacenters Private Limited invested Rs 500 crore.

Though the previous TDP government had promised to generate one lakh IT jobs in the State in five years (2014-2019) with an investment of 2 billion US dollars (Rs 15,000 crore), it had created only a few jobs in the sector. Out of 30,428 jobs created, 4,420 are BPO, 2,000 high-end, and 24,000 other posts.

On measures taken by the present government to attract the industries, the AP government said that the IT, E&C department has formulated policies during the period 2014-2020 to attract the investment enable IT, ITES, and Electronics Industry to set up, sustain, function and grow their operations in an investment-friendly, proactive, conducive and hasslefree environment in the state.

In the reply, the government also said that they have also pronounced certain incentives and facilitation measures in various policies such as consolidated AP IT Policy, AP electronics Policy, Designated Technology Parks(DTP) Policy, Integrated Innovation &Technology(IIIT) policy, Global In-house Centers(GIC) Policy, Al Cloud hub policy and AP Innovation & Startup Policy.
