Vizianagaram: Two school students, both cousins, were crushed to death under the rear wheels of a truck in Cheepurupalle in Vizianagaram district on Saturday morning. They were riding pillion on their uncle's motorcycle when the mishap took place. The deceased were identified as G. Gnaneswari, 10, a Class V student, and A. Yashita 5, an LKG student studying in a private school in the Cheepurupalle.
The police said that A. Upendra was riding the bike while the two girls were riding pillion on their way to the school on Saturday. The driver of the truck lost control while overtaking and hit the bike from behind. The trio fell from the bike. While the two children were crushed under the rear wheels of the truck and died, Upendra suffered some injuries in the incident and said to be out of danger.
The police have registered a case and shifted the bodies to the government hospital for post-mortem. The locals said that the over-speeding of the truck was the reason for the fatal accident. Though the driver of the truck tried to escape from the spot, the locals chased and nabbed him. He was taken into custody.
