Srikakulam: In a tragic incident, four police personnel, including a sub-inspector and three police constables of the Armed Reserve (AR) wing died in a road accident after their Bolero SUV was hit by a lorry at Summadevipeta under Palasa mandal on NH-16 in Srikakulam district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as SI K. Krushnudu, head constables Y. Babu Rao and P. Antony, and driver P. Janardhana Rao. The police said that the tragic incident took place when the AR police personnel were returning from Byrisarangapuram village after handing over the dead body of a jawan in the village.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the front tyre of the Bolero SUV burst suddenly near Summadevipeta. The driver of the SUV, Janardhana Rao, might have failed to control the vehicle, resulting in the SUV ramming the divider and landing on the other side of the NH-16. The lorry coming from the other side might have smashed into the SUV. The four personnel in the SUV died on the spot.

The police retrieved the bodies from the SUV and took them to the government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered and investigation is on to ascertain the exact reason for the fatal accident.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief over the death of the four AR personnel and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
