Hyderabad: A 14-year-old girl died and five people went missing when an auto-rickshaw carrying 12 persons fell off a bridge after it was hit by a speeding truck in Sangam mandal of Nellore district on Thursday night.
Nagavalli died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. She was among the seven who were rescued by the locals and the police.
The Nellore district police and the Coast Guard have launched search operations to find the missing five persons. They have been identified as Sampoorna, Karra Pullaya, Karra Nagaraju, Ademma, and Padma.
As a part of the rescue operations, the teams have pulled out the auto-rickshaw from the stream. Joint collector M. Harinder Prasad and superintendent of police Ch. Vijaya Rao visited the area and monitored the rescue operations. According to the police, though the flow of the stream is normal, deep water levels are making it difficult for the teams to conduct the search.
