Konaseema: A major fire broke out following a powerful explosion at the Ganapati Grand Crackers Manufacturing Unit in Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district, resulting in the death of six workers and injuries to several others.

People trapped under debris

The explosion triggered a large-scale fire that quickly engulfed the premises.

Around 40 workers were reportedly on duty when the blast occurred. The impact of the explosion caused the collapse of the factory’s shed wall, and officials suspect that more people might be trapped under the debris.

Firefighters rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Two of the seriously injured were shifted to Anaparthi Hospital, while others were taken to private hospitals for treatment.

Recent inspection checked safety measures

District Collector Mahesh Kumar, who visited the site, said that the local police and revenue officials had inspected the unit just a week ago and found all safety measures in place. He said that an investigation is underway to determine whether proper fire safety equipment was used and to identify the cause of the explosion.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He reviewed the situation with officials and directed them to visit the site, oversee relief operations and ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.

Home Minister Anitha also expressed grief over the tragedy and spoke to the district SP and fire department officials. She instructed them to provide quality medical treatment to the injured and assured them that the government would extend full support to the affected families.
