Eluru: A 64 year-old man died two days after taking the COVID-19 vaccine in West Godavari district. However, health officials are waiting for the sample report to confirm the reason for the man's death as he was suffering from paralysis and other comorbidities.

P. Kutumba Rao worked as a watchman in Vanguru village under Pedavegi mandal in West Godavari. He took the vaccine on 10 March. The man's family complained that after taking the vaccine, Rao suffered from high fever and fell ill. When his health condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Eluru District Hospital on 12 March where he died.

Rao was suffering from paralysis, diabetes, and other ailments.

His family filed a police complaint with the Two Town police in Eluru who have registered a case. An inquest and a post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the relatives.

The district coordinator for health services, West Godavari, A.V.R Mohan, said the deceased was suffering from long-term ailments like paralysis and diabetes. He said many elder persons were administered the COVID-19 vaccine and they have not faced any side effects. "However, we have sent the samples to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratories in Vijayawada for clinical confirmation and a report is expected in a week," he said.
