Kadapa: Seven youths drowned in Penna river near Siddavatam in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh on 17 December.
The police, NDRF, and fire service personnel have retrieved five bodies so far. Search is on to locate the bodies of two missing youngsters. Over 50 expert swimmers have been engaged by the police to trace them.
The additional superintendent of police, Devi Prasad, said a group of seven youngsters from Tirupati, all aged between 17-20 years, were attending the funeral of their friend's father at Siddavatam on Thursday evening. After the funeral, the group went for a swim in the river when they were washed away by the strong currents.
The police, NDRF teams, and fire service personnel launched a rescue operation on Thursday evening and located the bodies of two youngsters late on Thursday night. The bodies of three more youths were retrieved from Penna by Friday afternoon.
