Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is bracing up for another cyclone as a low-pressure area is forming over the Southeast Bay of Bengal.

This comes even as the cold wave conditions prevail in many parts of the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area over the Comorin area and neighbourhood lay over the Lakshadweep Islands adjoining Maldives on November 19, 2025. The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards during the next 24 hours.

MeT said a cyclonic circulation lies over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood and extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the subsequent 48 hours.

Meteorologists anticipate that the system may further strengthen into a cyclone over the southwest Bay of Bengal. At present, a low-pressure area persists in the same region, influencing weather patterns across the state.

Moderate Rains

The State Disaster Management Agency has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Prakasam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts on Thursday. On Friday, rainfall is expected in Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.

Cold Wave Intensifies

The cold wave conditions have tightened their grip over several parts of Andhra Pradesh, with temperatures plunging sharply across agency areas. On Tuesday night, G. Madugula in Alluri Sitarama Raju district recorded the lowest temperature of the season at 4.6°C.

Other parts of the district also saw severe drops in minimum temperatures:

Munchangiputtu: 6.8°C

Chintapalli: 9.7°C

Dumbriguda: 9°C

Paderu and Pedabayalu: below 10°C

Temperatures dipped below 15°C in several districts, including Parvathipuram Manyam, Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and NTR, signalling the onset of an intense winter phase across the region.
