Andhra Pradesh schools will reopen on June 12.

Amaravati: As the summer comes to an end, schools in Andhra Pradesh are set to reopen on June 12. On Thursday, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting of the Education Department and released the Academic Calendar 2023-24.

The calendar comprises the academic schedule, details of the principals, teachers’ duties, language clubs, melas, labs, lesson plan formats and guidelines, learn-a-word-a-day exercises, Telugu language week, and cultural activities.

Once the schools reopen, Jagananna Animutyalu Awards will be presented to the students in three phases: constituency level on June 15, district level on June 17 and state level on June 20. The chief minister examined the list of State Excellence Awards 2023 medals to be given to the 10th and intermediate final-year students of government institutions who excelled in their exams. This year, the top 10 ranks have been bagged by 64 students in Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan reviewed the distribution of Jagananna Vidya Kanuka kits, Nadu Nedu IFP Panels for schools covered under the first phase and adequate training to teachers on the usage of tabs, and internet facilities in all schools, and the works to be taken up under the second phase of Nadu Nedu, among others.

He directed the officials to ensure that every mandal has two junior colleges, one for girls and the other for co-education. Depending on the population, the high schools should be upgraded to junior colleges and adequate classrooms should be built under the Nadu Nedu programme. All junior colleges are told to be ready by next June and sufficient staff will be recruited.

“Teachers should be given training on using the IFP Panels and sending video content,” said Jagan. For this, the company representatives will be giving a demo to the faculty of engineering colleges who will in turn train the teachers, he added. “About 20,000 BTech students would take internships and they will help teachers in using the panels, Byju's content, and Smart TVs, every month,” the officials said.

Focus on no-dropouts

Stressing the need to ensure 100 per cent GER, the Chief Minister told the officials to ensure that there are no dropouts by taking the help of village and ward volunteers. For those who could not clear the 10th and 12th exams, department officials were asked to readmit them.

Internet in schools

Jagan directed the officials to ensure internet facilities are made available in all the 45,000 schools and steps are being taken in this direction with APSFL and BSNL providing the facility. While the internet facility to schools covered under the first phase of Nadu Nedu is complete, by September it will be extended to the remaining schools.

According to the officials, under the second phase of Nadu Nedu, Rs 3,28,708 crore was spent and works were taken up in 22,224 schools which would be completed by December.
