Visakhapatnam: Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof PVGD Prasad Reddy and Registrar James Stephen have resigned from their positions on Friday, reportedly due to ‘political interference’. On Friday morning, Prof Prasad Reddy submitted his resignation to the governor.
Prof Kishore Babu took over as the in-charge registrar.
This move comes after the supporters of the ruling TDP and Jana Sena Party, and Telugu Nadu Students Federation (TNSF), a student wing of TDP, staged a protest demanding the resignation of the VC. The activists alleged that despite the change in government, the VC has still not removed the portraits of YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in his chamber.
There were also allegations that Prof Prasad Reddy was involved in multiple irregularities and misuse of funds in the last four years.
Prof Prasad Reddy was reappointed as vice-chancellor of Andhra University for the second time in 2024. He is a senior professor at the Computer Science and Systems Engineering Department of AU. Since 1987, he worked as a HoD, principal and dean registrar at the varsity.
