By Newsmeter Network Published on 21 Dec 2021 4:08 AM GMTVisakhapatnam, December 21: India Meteorological Department (IMD) will set up an automatic weather station (AWS) at Lammasingi, also known as Andhra Pradesh's Kashmir.
The move is aimed to end guessing games. Lammasingi, popular as Lambasingi, a tribal hamlet under Chintapalle Mandal in Vizag Agency is called Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh given its cool weather.
However, temperatures reported from Lammasingi are just guesstimates - a mixture of guesswork and calculation.
Currently, RARS Chintapalle has a weather station. The minimum temperature recorded in RARA-Chintapalle in 2020 was 4.5 degree Celsius. It was 1.5 degree Celsius in 2019. The area is around 10 km from Lammasingi
Locals calculate the temperature by deducting two degrees from the officially recorded mercury levels at Chintapalle.
It may be recalled people had demanded to the government to set up a weather station at Lammasingi. Lammasingi and Tajangi are the coldest places in Andhra Pradesh.
Director of IMD-Amaravati, Stella S said AWS at Lammasingi will give the exact data after observing various parameters.
AWS can analyze weather parameters, wind, temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind directions, relative humidity, and rainfall. "We will share information every 15 minutes. Members of the public can see the data on the web," she said.
Stella said since Lammasingi has emerged as the most popular tourist destination, IMD decided to set up the AWS to give accurate weather conditions to visitors.
The IMD was allotted some land at Lambasingi for setting up AWS. The work for AWS will begin soon and it is expected to be operational by 2022.
AWS will also issue alerts for farmers regarding rainfall and other weather patterns in the Vizag Agency region.
Lammasingi and Tajangi villages have been attracting tourists from various parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the peak winter. Many tourists feel that the temperatures at Lammasingi would be 4-5 degree Celsius or even low.
