AP becomes first in India to use AI to monitor hygiene in govt schools

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh school education department has partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to monitor the hygiene in over 45,000 government schools across the state using an AI system. AP is the first in India to use AI to ensure proper hygiene in government schools.

The objective of this digital transformation is to create a healthy environment for students through a sophisticated and highly scalable AI solution powered by TCS Decision Fabric. TCS helped address the problem by leveraging its decision fabric computer vision components to automatically grade the sanitation in different areas such as commodes, urinals, washbasins, and floors.

The solution provides a user-friendly mobile app that allows the capturing of images with a smartphone. These images, when passed to the AI engine, get categorized based on the cleanliness of restrooms while handling the variations of the shape and design of floors, tiles, or commodes. The AI algorithms also counter manipulations with geotagging and time stamping and send the response back to the user as well as to the portal for public review.
