Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, which met on Thursday, has taken several key decisions, including taking up 'caste census' and the formation of economically weaker section (EWS) welfare department.

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, information and public relations minister Perni Venkataramaiah said the Cabinet has approved the creation of 1,285 posts in medical health and family welfare department, 560 pharmacist posts in YSR urban clinics, and 2,190 additional posts, including teaching faculty, staff nurses, and paramedical staff under the director of medical education, adding 4,035 new posts in the health department.

The minister said the state government aims to fill 41,000 vacancies in the health department and has filled 26,917 posts in the last two-and-a-half years. The remaining posts will be filled soon, he said.

Mr. Venkataramaiah said the Cabinet has authorized the BC welfare minister to place a resolution in the state Assembly requesting the Central government to take up caste census of backward classes while conducting the 2021 census.

He also said the Cabinet has approved the implementation of Amma Vodi Scheme in June 2022 instead of January 2022 and added that there is a condition that the students must have 75 per cent attendance to be eligible for the scheme.

The minister further said the Cabinet has approved the formation of a new department for the welfare of economically weaker sections and added that the Cabinet has also approved the formation of Jain Welfare Corporation and Sikh Welfare Corporation.

The Cabinet approved conducting the YSR Lifetime Achievement and YSR Achievement Awards function on 1 November every year coinciding with the formation day of Andhra Pradesh. It approved an MoU with Solar Energy Corporation of India to procure 700 MW power at a tariff of Rs. 2.49 per unit for 25 years to supply nine-hour daytime free power to the farmers.

The minister said the Cabinet has approved the allotment of 15 acres of land to Sri Sarada Peetham at Kothavalasa village in Bheemunipatnam mandal of Visakhapatnam district, 17.79 acres to Jaya Lakshmi Narasimha Sastry Gunduluru Trust at Bommaparthi village in Raptadu Mandal of Anantapur district, and also for the exchange of government land in Nagari constituency for Area Hospital.

Mr. Venkataramaiah said the Cabinet approved allotment of land for the development of Mega Spiritual Center and tourist base camp at the foothills of Sri Yadagiri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple by ISKON Charities at Penukonda in Anantapur district. It has also approved a tourism project at Shilparamam in Visakhapatnam, tourism project at Taj Varun Beach in Visakhapatnam, Hyatt place in Vijayawada and also decided to give them incentives under the tourism policy.

He said the Cabinet has sanctioned the construction of fishing harbor at Vodarevu in Prakasam district and approved the allotment of 130 acres of land to Adani Enterprises in Madhurawada, Visakhapatnam, for setting up a 200 MV data center park, business park, skill university and recreation center with an estimated investment of Rs. 14,634 crore and the creation of 24,990 jobs.
