Amaravati: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Friday stated that the overall crime rate in the State has declined by 6 per cent under the present coalition government, compared to the previous YSRCP regime.
Presenting the Home Department’s budget demand in the AP State Assembly, she asserted that improved law and order has played a key role in restoring public confidence and attracting investments to the State.
Focus on strengthening law and order
The Minister said maintaining strong law and order is crucial for the State’s development. She alleged that during the previous government’s tenure, weak law enforcement discouraged industrial growth.
She claimed that not a single major industry came to the State under the previous government.
According to her, the coalition government has ensured effective policing, which has contributed to Andhra Pradesh emerging as one of the top States in attracting investments nationwide.
Women’s safety given top priority
Anitha emphasised that women’s safety remains a priority for the government.
She alleged that under the previous regime, women felt unsafe stepping out of their homes and criticised what she termed as ‘misleading measures’ taken earlier in the name of safety initiatives.
She said the present government, under Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is firmly committed to protecting women through dedicated initiatives such as the Shakti App and Shakti Teams.
As a result of these focused efforts, crimes against women have reportedly declined by 4.4 per cent in the State.
Steps to curb cybercrime
Highlighting the growing threat of cybercrime, the Home Minister said the government is establishing dedicated cybercrime police stations in every district. Awareness programmes are also being conducted to educate citizens about online fraud and digital safety.
Strong warning against offenders
Issuing a stern warning, Anitha said the government would not tolerate attempts to incite unrest or disturb public order. “Those who cross the line will face imprisonment. No one who commits wrongdoing will go unpunished,” she asserted.
The Minister reiterated that effective policing and public cooperation would remain central to the government’s strategy in ensuring safety and sustained development across Andhra Pradesh.
