Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh will experience an extreme heat wave from Tuesday till June 12.

A warning has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Amaravati Centre, on heat waves, hot, humid, and uncomfortable weather is likely at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema.

Dry and warm wins from Central India are likely to grip Andhra Coast. This can result in a record in day temperatures between 42-47 degrees Celsius. According to Kiran, popularly known as Vizag Weatherman, Andhra wouldn't have much relief from heat till June 10. It is expected that Monsoon seasons are likely to start between June 13-17.

While scattered thunderstorms might bring a temporary respite, IMD has advised the public to take precautions against heatstroke and avoid going out in the sun during peak hours between 11 am to 3 pm.

2023 heat is higher than usual

According to the data available, the highest temperature so far was recorded at Rentachintala in Palnadu district at 49.9 Degrees Celsius on May 21, 1936.

For this season, Rentachinthala recorded the highest temperature at 45.2 Degrees Celsius on May 17, 2023.

Speaking to News Meter on this year's summer conditions, Andhra Pradesh weatherman Praneeth said, "This year temperatures are higher than usual as El Nino is developing over the Pacific. In general, summer cyclones during El Nino years move towards Myanmar or Bangladesh, causing elevated heat wave conditions across Telugu states. This year it happened during the Mid-May period after Cyclone Mocha struck Myanmar, causing a heatwave. Based on the El Nino, it is most likely to continue next year, and the heatwave can be even more severe."
