AP government forms SIT to probe temple attacks

Vijayawada: Under fire from Opposition, the Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a 16 member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate into attacks on temples.

Headed by senior IPS officer GV Ashok Kumar, the SIT will investigate all temple related cases since September 2020.

"Director, FSL will accord top priority to the request of any Forensic support by SIT chief. Agencies like CID and the Intelligence will extend full co-operation. The SIT will co-ordinate with SPs and local personnel and identify the linkages by studying the pattern of the crimes," an official communiqué said.

Cyber Crimes Police Station of CID, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam have been asked to extend all possible assistance. The SIT chief can ask DGP for any additional personnel/logistical support if required.

"The SIT chief will be supervising all proceedings in order to file a final report in the relevant court. SIT will update DGP and ADGP law and order about the progress from time to time," an official communiqué said.
