Amaravati: The ruling YSRCP is sweeping the urban body elections in Andhra Pradesh by winning 74 out of 75 municipalities and trends suggest it will win in all the municipal corporations. YSRCP has already won in Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Chittor, Tirupati, Ongole, and Guntur corporations. Counting is on in Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam corporations where the YSRCP has a good lead.
Elections were held for 12 corporations and counting is pending in Eluru corporation due to a High Court order.
Though the TDP has won 12 wards and the YSRCP 11 in the Mydukur municipality, the YSRCP candidate will become the chairperson with ex-officio votes.
The elections were held after two years of YSRCP governance and the results are a benchmark for the governance of Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy. The party's win is being attributed to the implementation of welfare schemes by the Chief Minister despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Apart from implementing welfare schemes, the Chief Minister also paved way for the development of urban bodies. The urban community also supported the policies of the YSRCP government resulting in the landslide victory.
