Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh director of public health and family welfare, Dr. Hymavathi, on Friday refuted the claim that 30 foreign nationals were missing in the state. She said all international travelers are being tested at all airports by the authorities.
Stating that there are no international airports as such in Andhra Pradesh and no flights land directly there, Dr. Hymavathi added that the state government has already posted medical teams and set up helpdesks in all airports in the state to monitor, screen, and test passengers.
She said the Central government has sent the state the list of 30 international travelers from Vizag and nearby districts. They will be monitored at their homes by the state health teams, she added.
The DPH said a few flights are landing at Vijayawada airport under Vande Bharat Scheme and the health teams are screening all passengers as per the protocol of the Central government.
Meanwhile. the Vizag district administration is searching for three passengers from South Africa and six from Botswana for conducting RT-PCR tests.
The district administration observed that more than 50 international passengers, who landed at various airports in India in the past 10 to 15 , came to Vizag city through air and road and train routes.
Some of them are not responding to phone calls and officials fear they are absconding.
The district administration is on a high alert in view of the new variant of dreaded Covid-19 virus Omicron threat.
The district administration has set up a screening center for air passengers at the airport. While tracing the contact details of the foreign nationals, who arrived in the vizaf city in the last 10 days, officials noticed that 10 people had come from Africa.
