By Newsmeter Network Published on 27 Dec 2021 2:22 PM GMTAmaravati: Andhra Pradesh has topped the Good Governance Index (GGI) ranking in the agriculture and allied sectors.
GGI is a comprehensive and implementable framework to assess the state of governance in all states and Union Territories. In the agriculture and allied sector, eight indicators have been identified with a focus on output and institutional support like crop insurance.
The GGI is a bi-annual exercise. Growth is being evaluated against the results of the 2019 GGI ranking.
In Andhra Pradesh, the growth rate in agriculture and allied sectors touched a remarkable double-digit at 11.3 from 6.3 in 2019. This is almost a 100% growth rate. While the growth in horticulture produce rose to 12.3% from a mere 4.7%, milk production set a new record at 11.7% which can be attributed to the state's MoU with Amul conglomerate. Milk production was around 1.4% in 2019.
State's meat production touched 10.3% from -6.7% which is a significant rise. Andhra Pradesh's performance in crop insurance implementation was 26.1%.
The Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) won laurels from NITI Aayog and special chief secretary for agriculture Poonam Malakondaiah. RBKs are being developed as a one-stop solution for all the grievances of the farmers right from the sale of seeds, pesticides, and fertilizers to the procurement of agricultural produce.
"Accessibility of multiple selling/buying options for crop production to the farmers can be achieved by linking the mandis to e-markets. The enhanced flow of information will increase the bargaining power of farmers and reduce their vulnerability. Thus, an additional indicator 'Agriculture Mandis Enrolled in e-Market' is included in GGI 2020-21," said the special chief secretary for agriculture, Poonam Malakondaiah.
