AP woman ends life over sexual harassment by TDP leader; womens commission seeks action

Sri Satya Sai: A few days after a woman died by suicide, blaming the TDP leader of Tanakal village for sexually assaulting her, Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma sought strict action against the TDP leader.

The incident happened in the Sri Satya Sai district. The woman hanged herself in her house in Errabelli under Tanakal mandal in the Kadiri constituency. Before her death, she took a video, alleging that TDP leader Rallapalli Imtiyaz had sexually harassed her. The TDP leader met the victim through Facebook and threatened to post morphed nude photos of her on social media. Unable to bear the harassment, she ended her life.

The district police took the TDP leader into custody.

The Commission chairperson asked the district superintendent of police (SP) to speed up the investigation. "I urge the police to speed up the investigation and punish him (TDP leader). Not just this incident, TDP leaders have earlier been involved in incidents of sexual harassment against women. If TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu had taken the issue seriously and taken action against his leaders, such incidents wouldn't have been repeated," said Vasireddy Padma.

She recalled the death of a class IX student in Vijayawada after she was harassed by TDP leader Vinod Jain in January 2022. She blamed TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for protecting his leaders who are committing such crimes.
