AP womens commission issues notice to Pawan Kalyan for his derogatory comments

Amaravati: Taking a stern note of Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan's outrageous comments on 'three marriages', the State Women's Commission president Vasireddy Padma on Saturday issued a notice denouncing Pawan Kalyan's unsavory comments mocking women's dignity and sanctity of marriages and called it a threat to women's safety.

Decrying Pawan Kalyan's distasteful comments, Vasireddy Padma issued a notice and asked him to express remorse and retract his statement immediately. The State Women's Commission took cognizance of the issue after a massive outrage broke out in response to Pawan Kalyan's derogatory remarks against women on 18 October in Mangalagiri.

In the statement, Vasireddy Padma said the Jana Sena chief's comments insinuating that "a man can get rid of his wife if he has maintenance to offer" are unfortunate and have deeply hurt women across the state.

The commission asserted that such kind remarks from a president of a political party and an actor of his stature poses a serious threat to the safety of women in the society and encourages patriarchal stereotypes.

"How could you casually compare that by giving monetary compensation in crores, lakhs, thousands a man can get rid of his wife? Which women will be safe in society if we propagate this kind of mindset? Don't you have any accountability for the same?" questioned Ms. Padma.
