APPSC Group 1: AP High Court orders SIT probe, forensic analysis of answer sheets

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged irregularities in the APPSC Group 1 examination evaluation. The court ordered a forensic audit of answer sheets and sought assistance from experts outside the State.

ADG-rank officer to head SIT

The High Court directed the State government to constitute the SIT under the supervision of an officer of Additional Director General (ADG) rank to ensure an impartial and time-bound investigation.

The court said the probe must comprehensively examine allegations of irregularities in the valuation process and fix responsibility if any lapses are found.

Forensic experts outside AP

To maintain transparency and avoid any conflict of interest, the court instructed the government to take the assistance of forensic experts from outside Andhra Pradesh.

The SIT has been asked to verify whether the answer sheets of selected candidates are securely preserved and examine if there has been any tampering. A forensic analysis must be conducted wherever necessary, the court observed.

Barcode–OMR verification ordered

The High Court specifically directed investigators to check whether the barcodes used during the evaluation process in Vijayawada match the original details recorded in the OMR sheets.

The court said discrepancies, if any, must be thoroughly examined to determine whether answer sheets were altered or manipulated during the valuation process.

Selected candidates to be shifted

Expressing concern that candidates already selected and currently serving in government posts may influence the investigation, the court directed the authorities to transfer them to non-sensitive or non-influential positions until the probe is completed.

Report by March 16

The SIT has been instructed to submit its report to the court by March 16. While disposing of connected petitions, the High Court adjourned further hearing of the main cases to a later date.

The court’s directions are seen as a significant development in the controversy surrounding the APPSC Group 1 examination, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency in public recruitment.
