Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh government which has formed Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) to curb precious wood smuggling is now brought under control of Special Enforcement Bureau. The special unit will investigate all matters involving illegal activities pertaining to red sanders within the state.
The state also issued orders to create 463 posts for the task force consisting of police and forest personnel.
The RSASTF will function under the command and administrative control of the principal chief conservator of forest (head of forest force) or any other senior officer specifically designated by him. The unit will exercise powers like a police station as defined in the Criminal Procedure Code and will enforce the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Andhra Pradesh Forest Act 1967, Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, and such other Acts and Rules as applicable relating to matters involving the protection of red sanders.
The task force will be under the control of the DGP and function under the supervision of the commissioner of the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB). It will be assisted by the director, SEB, to effectively control red sanders smuggling.
The state also issued orders to create a new department, the Special Enforcement Bureau, with a view to curb smuggling, illicit distillation, and bottling of alcohol, and control illegal mining. One Special Enforcement Bureau will be set up in each district for all the 18 police units. The government has notified the structure and staffing pattern of the Special Enforcement Bureau along with SEB stations and jurisdiction of 20 SEB stations.
